shakespeare, sci-fi, and stanislavsky
Hello from the chilly streets of Brooklyn!
I've currently got a few creative irons in the fire. Here's what's going down:
ACTIVE ANAYLSIS @ Primary Stages FEBRUARY 23 - MAY 10
This spring, I'm teaching an Advanced Scene Study course at Primary Stage's Einhorn School of the Performing Arts (ESPA). The class will approach contemporary plays using the late Stanislavsky technique of Active Analysis, which is currently being pioneered in this country for the first time by my dear mentor and friend David Chambers.
CITY OF EMBER, A New Musical
APRIL 1 @ Turtle Bay Music School
Adele Powers and Zak Sandler have written a new musical adaptation of Jeanne DuPrau's young adult sci-fi adventure City of Ember. I'll be directing a reading of this exciting new piece on April Fool's Day. Steampunk musical shenanigans on the horizon!
HENRY 5
THE BRICK'S 'SHAKESPEARE IN THE THEATRE' FESTIVAL
ONCE MORE UNTO THE BREACH, DEAR FRIENDS. This summer, I will be adapting and directing a small-ensemble, all-women production of Shakespeare's HENRY V as part of the Brick's Shakespeare Festival in Williamsburg. Co-proposed by my great friend and collaborator, performer/art-maker Josephine Stewart, and myself, this production will be physical and fierce -- an examination of the brutal politics of masculinity, power, and war. The festival runs July 10-August 6. More specific dates and details to come...
